speedcubing, it would be advisable to avoid buying larger cubes as a
first puzzle. 2X2, 3X3 and Pyraminx class are the most preferable
options to enter the world of cubing. Familiarity with the
these three-dimensional puzzles and understanding how they are solved will help
you advance to puzzles of higher complexity (4X4, 5X5 and so on).

This phenomenon is called “popping” and 99% of such cases
are due to the loose settings under which the cube operates and/or a
momentary clumsy handling. Either because of the default settings selected by the
manufacturer or because of its long-term use, your cube
can be found looser than its functional limit. Therefore, in the case that you
solve the cube and it suddenly pops, you shall not panic. All you have to do
after reassembling it, (you can find out all the assembling techniques around Youtube
videos), is to adjust the 6 centers of the cube core
evenly in a tighter setting, which will hold the pieces
together and prevent the cube from popping. Most modern
speedcubes come with the necessary equipment to modify it
(in most cases it is just a small screwdriver or a special tool
) and adjust it according to your preference.

Be careful! Don’t tighten your cube too much. An overly tight cube will
will certainly avoid popping, but will lose in performance, as it will be
prone to lock-ups and his corner-cutting will be  lacking massively.

Modern speedcubes can achieve excellent speed without the need for
a lubricant. Therefore, under no circumstances should the
purchase of a lubricant  be considered a necessity in order for the cube to function well
within its standards, especially at a beginner’s level. However, as you get more profecient,
the use of a lubricant can indeed provide an improved
feel of the cube when rotating.

Therefore, a good lubricant can ultimately be the one that will help you break your personal record by improving your time by a few seconds, or provide the cube with control and stability you wish, if these are the features you are looking to enhance.
