The Rubik’s Cube was invented in 1974 by Hungarian architect Erno Rubik. During his time as a professor at the Budapest College of Applied Arts, Rubik invented the cube in an attempt to present his students with a model of three-dimensional motion. In fact, Rubik’s prototype did not include colours. He added these later in order to differentiate the pieces of the cube from one another, giving the cube its final form, as we know it today.
Over the years, the Cube would expand from its original 3×3 dimension that remains theu00a0 most popular to this day. Thus, models of different sizes were built (2×2, 4×4, 5×5, etc.), while nowadays models that deviate from the traditional cubic shape (pyramids, normal polyhedra, etc.) are also very popular.
Entering the third decade of the 21st century, the Cube has now reached hundreds of millions of sales worldwide, making it the best-selling puzzle game of all time and claiming a spot on the list of the top-selling games overall.
